Biografía:
I like to teach in a very relaxed way and to be led by the student. I try to establish my students' hobbies and interests so I can base speaking, reading, and writing exercises on familiar content. Often I use non-fiction texts as ways of learning new vocabulary and as a starting point for conversation. When teaching academic English I usually ask the student to prepare in advance.
Mi metodología de enseñanza:
- I prefer to use non-fiction texts, often from news sources or based on my students' interests, to practice reading aloud, expanding vocab, and providing a structure for conversation and written responses.
- I prefer students to do extended tasks outside of tuition time.
- I set a lot of store by grammatical appreciation as this can really help developing sentence complexity.
Mi experiencia docente:
I have taught several adult learners English face-to-face. I have also taught reading and writing to children whose first language isn't English, face-to-face for over two years as a private and voluntary tutor. I taught Ancient Greek at a summer school last year to a class of sixth form students.
Mi experiencia fuera de la enseñanza:
My degree at the University of Oxford included several papers on historical linguistics. I do lots of work with children, as a volunteer and a play worker at a local playground.
