Candace Card

Hi! My name is Candace, I am a Native English Speaker from South Africa. I am an outgoing person who enjoys trying new things. I live in Hong Kong where I have been working full-time teaching English since 2016. I am a qualified early years teacher, TEFL certified, and am a Registered Teacher in Hong Kong. I have experience teaching children and adults of different ages in various settings.

My goal is make lessons engaging and fun so that students enjoy the learning process. I use a variety of materials and activities depending on the learning needs of the student. For young children, I like to use songs and games, and for adults, real-life texts, videos and role-play activities.

I have worked as a Native English Teacher since 2016. I gained experience teaching full-time in language school and in both local and international schools in Hong Kong, teaching children of various ages but mostly specialising in children aged 3-6 years old. During that time, I also conducted private one-on-one lessons in person and online for children and adults. I have experience teaching general English, Jolly Phonics, Cambridge Young Learners (YLE) exam preparation for young learners aged 3-6 years old as well as conversational English and comprehension to adults at beginner level or those who just want to practice and develop their communication skills.

I am originally from South Africa, where before becoming a teacher, I worked in the legal profession. I have always loved travelling and spent a month travelling around Europe when I finished high school. A trip to Thailand 7 years later prompted me to make a career change and move to Asia to further pursue my love for travelling, meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. Having now lived in Hong Kong for over 7 years, together with my experience both in the legal and teaching professions, has developed my skills to easily communicate and connect with people of various ages and backgrounds.
