Jacob McCullough
Biografía:
Hello! I'm Jacob, I'm from Ireland and I'm an English language teacher. I'm always happy to be a part of someone's language learning journey. I started teaching when I was travelling around Latin America, having seen how much of a need there was for people there to learn English, and how many doors this could open in life for them! Now, I tutor privately online and face-to-face. I like to make engaging, informative lessons tailored to the student's needs, always focusing on language production!
Mi metodología de enseñanza:
- To begin, we will revise the previous lesson's material using a quick speaking activity or by going over the homework together
- Next, we will approach the target language of the current lesson by engaging with some form of reading or listening activity to activate your knowledge. You will be given time to figure things out for yourself, I will be there to guide you through it!
- Then, we will clarify any points you don't understand, and I will make sure you are clear on everything
- Now, it's time to practice! We will usually practice vocabulary or grammar by doing some form of reading/listening activity, followed by a form of speaking activity - this can be a roleplay, a debate, discussion, speech, presentation etc.
- Finally, we will discuss homework! Homework doesn't have to be boring, I want you to enjoy the process of practicing the language outside of the classroom, so homework usually involves a listening activity surrounding a video, TV clip, music, game etc.
Mi experiencia docente:
I obtained a teaching qualification last year, training me to teach English as a second language to non-native speakers. Since then, I have ben tutoring privately online and face-to-face. I work across several online platforms, mostly teaching teenagers and adults who are looking for jobs in English-speaking countries or are interested in immigrating. I have also taught in a community language school in the north of Peru, where I had large classes mostly made up of children and teenagers. On top of this, I have some experience teaching in an international high school to students aged from 12-14 years old. Here, I followed the Cambridge English curriculum, preparing students to sit English proficiency exams and travel to other countries for university or further education. Mostly, my teaching is very goal-oriented, focusing on tailoring my lessons to the individual goals of each student and guiding them towards using the language as much as possible in lessons!
Mi experiencia fuera de la enseñanza:
I'm very laid-back and empathetic, I understand that learning a language can be difficult, and I am here to give you the space and time that you need to learn at your pace. We will always keep an open mind in the classroom and only progress when you are comfortable and confident with the level you are currently at. I have also travelled a lot in my life and lived in many other countries, so I understand how to communicate between different cultures and languages, and how your culture can impact the way in which you learn! I am always open to new ideas and I like to keep my lessons very interesting and always try different methods to keep things exciting for both of us!
